McCall Winter Carnival Will Go On Despite Lack of Snow

MCCALL -- Organizers say the 2012 McCall Winter Carnival will go on as schedule despite limited snowfall.

The carnival is set for the Jan. 27 through Feb. 5. This year’s theme is “Destination Adventure!”

“We have had concerns over the lack of snow impacting the events planned, however, the community has pulled together to come up with some very adventurous solutions to ensure this year’s Carnival is one we will never forget!” said Winter Carnival Chair McKenzie Christensen in a prepared statement.

One of the main attractions is the snow sculptures. This year, spectators can expect to see a combination of both snow and non-snow sculptures.

Other events dependent on snowfall include the Flash Point Snowbike Race, the McPaws Monster Dog Pull, and the Snowmobile Fun Run. Both the Snowbike Race and Monster Dog Pull have contingency plans in place to truck snow into the venues if necessary, while the Snowmobile Fun Run course is planned on groomed trails that will be ready for event day.

Some new events planned for the 2012 McCall Winter Carnival include -- a Lobster Feed, the McCall Starz on Ice Extravaganza, the Barley Brothers Winter Ale Festival, a live Bull Riding event, Wine Dinners featuring Cinder, and Idaho winery, and Dunham Cellars, and a live karaoke event on the Main Stage.
